Cotton harvesting began in Osh region: farmers note high yields - Tazabek

Tazabek — Cotton harvesting has begun in the Aravan district of Osh region. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture.

It became known that this year cotton was sown in the region on a total area of 1 thousand 252 hectares, and harvesting work is currently ongoing.

According to local farmers, this year the cotton yield is high — from 60 to 70 centners are obtained per hectare. The region mainly grows cotton of the Chinese variety «Elite», which, according to farmers, is characterized by high yield.

“In cotton production, modern water-saving technologies are widely used, including drip irrigation systems. Cotton harvesters are also used for harvesting, which is more economical for farmers compared to manual picking. Currently, the price of cotton is determined taking into account world exchange prices. The collected cotton is transferred to local cotton receiving enterprises, and the produced cotton is mainly exported to China, Iran, Russia and other countries,” the statement said.
